Typical Features of an Access Floor
A standard raised access floor within a data centre typically has a floor to ceiling clearance of three metres.

The standard raised access floor loading limit is usually 300kg per square metre for a ground floor access floor and 250kg per square metre for a first floor access floor. With a suitable secondary steel work sub structure this can usually be increased to one tonne per square metre.
The building housing the data centre is often a multi-story steel and concrete construction. Ceilings, walls, floors and doors should all be checked for fire-resistance.
Ensuring access floor functionality
Installing an Uninterruptible Power Supply System (UPS) is advisable for critical computer supplies. Each UPS can support the contents beneath the access floor for 15 minutes at full load, whilst automatically switching to alternate supply, or standby generation start-up/synchronisation takes place.
The heat rejection system tends to be chilled water, which utilises dry heat rejection at rooftop level. It is also possible to install a full function, closed control air conditioning system, with cooling, humidity and de-humidification control.
