Access Floor – Key Components

Floor Panel

The industry standard size for an access floor panel is on average 600mm square; however the size varies depending on the specific projects for which they are required. The access floor panel is comprised of a surface plate, which in turn is attached to a base plate; reinforcing ribs may also be added, again depending on specific requirements.

Pedestal

The pedestals are the supporting bases for the access floor panels, and consequently are adjustable and upright structures. The pedestal head cap provides panel location through which electrical and other such cables can pass. The pedestals can be attached to the sub-floor through use of adhesives and mechanical fixings.

Stringer

A stringer is a vertical length of continuous beam that connects the pedestals together. They provide additional strength and support for the access floor and can enhance the structure of the access floor system.

Bridging Beams

Bridging beams act as a pedestal when it is not possible for one to be fitted in its required location, whether this is due to unavoidable obstacles or other circumstances.
