Chipboard Raised Access Floors

Chipboard is made by gluing together wood particles under heat and pressure. The final product is a hard material that can be made to reach different densities depending on the process used. Chipboard, also known as particle board, is lighter than solid wood, retains more flexibility and is better able to breathe. For these reasons, it is an ideal material for the core of raised access floor panels.

Chipboard raised access floors are flame-retardant and moisture-resistant, two essential qualities in construction materials. Furthermore, chipboard raised access floors are known to be quiet, and typically are less expensive than alternatives. Alternatives to chipboard in raised access floor panels are a cement mixture or simply steel.

Installation of Chipboard Raised Access Floors

Chipboard raised access floors work no differently than their alternatives. Installation is still done by adhering a metal grid to a subfloor to hold the panels aloft. The space between the new floor and subfloor is then free to house cables, wires, electrical systems, air ducts and piping. Today, new office buildings are typically designed with raised access floors.
