Cleaning Your Access Floor

When access floor panels are removed for access to the void, the cavity should be checked for cleanliness. The most appropriate method for cleaning the sub floor level is employing the use of a vacuum cleaner. If a floor sealer has been used previously, any cracking or flaking should be noted, so that repair work can be scheduled.

Vinyl Panels

Vinyl panels which have been bonded to the access floor will mostly have static control properties, these properties may be impaired with the use of sealing compounds and polishes etc. There are major limitations on cleaning methods due to the nature of the services in the void. Do not allow the surface to become dirty, stained or discoloured in the first place. Normal cleaning methods for vinyl may be unpractical for access floors, as the surface is not water tight.

Carpet Panels

Vacuum the carpet frequently, daily if possible, for best results use a machine that has a separate power driven brush head and an airflow of at least thirty eight litres per second. Needle punch carpet, with its extra dense construction, will tend to hold dirt more stubbornly than pile carpet, and therefore harder to clean and maintain.

Loose lay carpet tiles should not be wet shampooed unless the application is able to remove all of the moisture used in the process. Residual moisture will eventually travel into the panels and could potentially result in swelling and corrosion.

Bare Steel Panels

In order to clean bare steel floor panels, the most effective methods are sweeping and vacuuming. The panels must not be washed. Any surface stains can be removed using a fine water mist sprayer and wiping immediately with a dry cloth.
