Mechanical Properties of a Raised Floor

Raised floors are a system of panelled, elevated flooring surfaces situated above the original floor. There is a void between the raised flooring and original flooring; a space that can easily configure and reconfigure its air vents, wiring and data cables below.

The main variables determining a raised floors load bearing capacity are the type of structure that is used, the materials used for the core of the panels and its density, and the top and lower covering of the panels.

One of the key elements of a raised floor is adequate mechanical resistance in comparison with standard (original) floors. For each raised floor that is fitted, the resistance for all the different types of panels is determined by tests built specifically for this.

These tests ensure that whatever the material chosen for the top covering, for example wood or sulphate, the mechanical resistance and load bearing is the same.
