Raised Floor - Underfloor Air Distribution
Underfloor air distribution (UAD) is a relatively recent technology that generates space conditioning in offices and other commercial buildings by using the underfloor plenum below a raised floor system. The use of underfloor air distribution is becoming popular for high tech businesses because it has a number of benefits over traditional ceiling-based air distribution.

UAD: raised floor
Raised floors, which are elevated 3 to 6 inches (7.5 to 15 cm) above the slab, and channelled slabs provide electrical and utility service on top of or within the slab. These techniques usually reduce wiring-related expenses because slab drilling is unnecessary.
UAD: access floor
With an access floor all wiring, utilities, and equipment such as outlet devices, junction boxes, and small terminal units are sandwiched between the access floor and the concrete slab below. The access floor is 12 to 18 inches (30 to 46 cm) or more above the slab.
A worthwhile investment
Annual occupant relocation, or ‘churn’ rate, is increasingly common; and in many cases, installing a raised floor or access floor with underfloor air distribution can reducing churn-related expenses such as rewiring costs.
